Great British Beach Clean at Winchelsea Beach
September 20 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pmFREE
More than just a beach clean – a very sociable event opening eyes to the stories behind the rubbish on our beaches.
This beach was first surveyed in 2015 and to help discover the source of much of the rubbish on the beach we “pick up, identify, record, bag and bin or recycle”. The information goes to a national database where the MCS can lobby Government to help reduce marine pollution (plastic bag tax, wet wipe labelling etc).
For those who wish to take part in a beach clean only, there will be a large stretch of the beach available! But Strandliners encourage everyone to look out for transatlantic rubbish, container spill remains and local pollution such as Biobeads (identification sheets will be available).
Equipment will be available but please wear sturdy footwear and be prepared for rain, sun, wind etc!
There are two small car parks. If coming by bus there’s a 10 min walk from the Winchelsea Beach Co-Op stop and the 101 Hastings/Rye bus. Meet at end of Dog’s Hill Rd, Winchelsea Beach, TN36 4LX, by toilets.
The beach is shingle with views across to Rye Harbour Nature Reserve and Dungeness.
We aim to do the 100m beach litter survey and then clean up as much as we can get to.
