Sustainability Day at Heart of Hastings, Ore Valley – CANCELLED
September 23 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pmFREE/DONATION
From the organisers:
We have had to cancel today’s Sustainability Day activities, including the Nature Walks, at the Power Station Site
For the first time in our series of 8 Nature Walks, we have been beaten by the weather. We have spoken to all the walk leaders and decided that it is safer to cancel today’s walk now. The weather isn’t showing much improvement and we can’t guarantee your safety or comfort with the sorts of gusts that have been around for the last few days. Please put October 6th in your diaries – this will be the last in the series of Nature Walks. Thank you all.
Sustainability Day at the power station site is all day on Sunday September 23rd. All free activities with free refreshments between 12–3pm – donations accepted.
The day will feature two guided walks around the site – the first at 10am will be more of a Nature Walk with guides Ben Edwards (Herbalist & Story-teller) and Claire Land (Forest School Leader) the second at 3pm will be led by Ecotherapist Leonie Guest, who has kindly agreed to put on this activity free of charge for Heart of Hastings – donations to Heart of Hastings are optional.
From midday until 3pm there will be a Heart of Hastings information stall with details of our projects and plans for the Ore Valley – including a vital section of the Hastings Greenway. You will be able to ask about our affordable housing and job creation ideas, and hopefully be inspired to join up as a volunteer, or go on our mailing list to be kept in touch about our plans and activities. Between 12 and 3 there will also be a Solar /Off-grid living information session with Arran – our resident Solar Champion.
We hope to have the ‘Smoothie Bike’ onsite, which can turn your pedalling efforts into cheap, tasty and healthy juice drinks. There will be other drinks and biscuits available too, donations for these are optional.
There are difficult areas of terrain on the site, and the walks are not suitable for those with limited mobility. There will be a compost toilet available, but no fully accessible toilets will be available on the day.
This will be a low-carbon, sustainable event, and we encourage you to travel to it in a low-carbon, sustainable way if possible. Ore Railway station is nearby and several buses come near to the site – see this link for details http://www.cartogold.co.uk/eastsussextransport/map.htm
